Logistics is an important way of increasing a business’ efficiency, significantly contributing to better costs and processes management. Outsourcing logistics activities to a specialized company allows clients to focus on their core business, reduce costs and maximize profit. Total occupier take-up in the main European warehousing markets, totalling over 10 million sq m, begins to improve after the 2009 decline, with central and east European markets registering a good evolution driven by the ongoing maturing process of logistics sector.
The company is well-recognized in the markets where it operates for its extensive warehousing capabilities, implementation of advanced technology for better management and control, as well as for the large range of value-added services it offers. The KLG Europe warehouses in The Netherlands, Romania and United Kingdom are not simply warehouses of product, but repositories of product and information on the movement of the product, which is in the benefit of the clients.
120,000 sq m of modernly-equipped warehouses are available for the KLG clients in The Netherlands, Romania and UK to store, handle and transfer their merchandise to the retailers or other destinations. The company accomplishes all major warehousing processes, from receiving goods at the loading docks, storing, order preparation and picking to shipping and inventory management (cycle counting, addressing etc.).
The warehouses are strategically located and easily accessible. KLG both offers dedicated warehouse and shared warehouse solutions, so that clients can better control their logistics budgets. By using a warehouse management system, material direction and tracking can be perfectly coordinated and the personnel can maintain accurate inventory by recording warehouse transactions. Based on the clients’ storage requirements regarding their products, the KLG team comes up with proposals for the optimum way of storage and handling.
In order to maximize storage and people security, most of the KLG warehouses have security standards based on TAPA (Technology Asset Protection Association) and warehouse management systems.
The warehouse management systeem (WMS) in use at KLG is supported by radio frequency equipement (RF scanning). All activities are directed by the WMS and need to be confirmed by the employees on the warehouse with scanning equipment. This ensures real-time recording of all changes concerning the stock. Errors are limited, as administration is made in real-time in the warehouse itself and not afterwards, by an employee in front of a desk. RF scanning is done on several levels (intern pallet number, SSCC labels, EAN code and serial numbers).
KLG also started implementing a state-of-the-art TMS (transportation management system) application. Although the company has centralized the main part of the information and communication technology, it sticks to local operational ICT specialists & key users at all its locations. Delivery notes (AVIZ) & Reception notes (NIR) are automatically delivered per email after confirmation in the system.
KLG Europe has also developed a high-end internet portal in order to supply full transparency to its customers.Their acces to information via EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) helps them to better manage the warehouse shipping order, product storage and replenishment or stock transfer. Computer-to-computer communication is faster and more accurate, allowing clients to meet the manifold challenges and requirements logistics processes pose nowadays and providing an efficient processing of in-and outbound logistics data.
The automation of the warehouse processes (in case of receipt and notification of goods, for example) contributes to reducing costs and prevents delays in information, which positively impacts the clients’ decision-making process (when to sell, for example) and, consequently, their business efficiency.
